Charity benefits from the challenge

Two charities have been selected as beneficiaries of the Solo Round Scotland Charity Challenge.

Ocean Youth Trust Scotland


The Ocean Youth Trust Scotland aims to become the leading provider of youth work at sea in the UK, for young people aged 12-24, in a safe yet unique environment.'

Ocean Youth Trust Scotland provides adventurous educational opportunities for young people aged 12-24 to develop their knowledge about themselves, others, and society. Above all Ocean Youth Trust Scotland makes sailing fun. This ensures that young people and our volunteers learn a range of sea, sailing, and social skills such as:

Ocean Youth Trust Scotland Ltd was established in 1999 as a charity in Scotland from the re-structuring of the Ocean Youth Trust which was a UK-wide charity operating 7 sailing vessels.

OYT Scotland operate a 70' ketch, Alba Venturer, specifically designed for working with young people. In 2004 OYTS took over 500 youngsters to sea. In 2004 Alba Volunteer, a 43' Jeanneau, was added to the fleet. Alba Volunteer is used mainly for RYA qualifications and training of the volunteer sea staff.

Parkinson's Disease Society


The Parkinson's Disease Society is the leading charity dedicated to supporting all people with Parkinson's, their families, friends and carers.

The Parkinson's Disease Society was established in 1969 and now has 30,000 members, 19,000 supporters and over 300 branches and support groups throughout the UK. We provide support, advice and information to people with Parkinson's, their carers, families and friends, and to health and social services professionals involved in management and care. It is a registered charity.
