The Solo Round Scotland Charity Challenge would not be happening without the help and support of the many who have lent their help and expertise and most importantly my wife Shona who has put up with this project over the past 18 months.

Here are some details and contact information of those who are helping with the Challenge. Reward their help by donating online here.

Shore Managers: Gordon McGeorge and Erik Archer. Gordon and Erik will be acting as shore managers during the challenge. Six hourly safety contact will be maintained throughout the voyage tracking position and also relaying weather forecasts and other information to Pegasus. Gordon is a multiple national sailing champion competing at world championship level and Erik has experience from many thousands of sea miles and ocean passages. Both have been invaluable in helping in the preparations for the challenge.

Kirkcudbright. Many thanks to Derek Collins who has been a great help in setting up arrangements in Kirkcudbright. Rab Thompson and Peter Roberts for their assistance at the marina and Colin Wardon with the help of John Aitken for agreeing to act as official timekeepers on behalf of the World Speed Sailing Record Council and standby boats for the start: RNLI and Keith Newman - a major thanks to you all at Kirkcudbright


Nick Flemming General Manager Ocean Youth Trust Scotland
Nick has a wealth of experience at sea having been a round the world yacht race skipper and is one of the most respected senior RYA instructors in Scotland. Nick is General Manager of OYTS and will be helping Alan with passage planning and safety planning for the voyage. After the challenge Pegasus will be sailed back to the west coast of Scotland by a crew of OYTS volunteers so helping with crew training and building sea miles for RYA qualifications needed to sail the OYTS boats.

Fiona Campbell Meteorologist
Fiona will be assisting with the vital weather planning and weather routing prior to and during the challenge. Although in Valentia training with the GB Olympic team Fiona will be sending detailed weather forecasts by email to Alan aboard Pegasus.
Fiona was the meteorologist for GBR Challenge, and is currently the meteorologist for the RYA Olympic sailing team. Growing up on the Isle of Skye and sailing around the Scottish Hebrides instilled a love and passion of weather. A degree in Meteorology from Reading University and experience as an operational forecaster, presented the opportunity to work as a freelance meteorologist specialising in marine meteorology.

Alasdair McKendrick, Perth City Cycles.
Sponsor, supplier of TREK bikes and advisor for the cycling leg of the challenge. Alasdair is helping Alan come face to face with the advanced technologies of bicycles and is looking to help shave time off the cycling leg.

Chris Dodgson Beneteau Scotland
Chris is a 'well kent' face on the clyde and is often seen working hard on the Beneteau 47.7 palying FTSE. Chris is helping to get Pegasus race ready. Chris is particularly looking forward to seeing how much weight he can strip out of Pegasus and also looking at rigging and tuning the rig for the challenge.

Sue McKichan, Marketing Matters. Sue has a wealth of experience in marketing and PR in tourism, sport and outdoor activities and has been an invaluable help in promoting awareness and PR matters for the challenge. Dr Chris Idzikowski, Edinburgh Sleep Centre
Chris Idzikowski who is director of the Edinburgh Sleep Centre will be keeping a close eye on how Alan using remote recording equipment. Chris also works for British Airways as their sleep consultant. Chris first starting his work at Edinburgh University before moving on to Cambridge to study anxiety and fear. Since then he has been actively involved in research and helped set up the British Sleep Society (as Hon Treasurer) and the Royal Society of Medicine Sleep Medicine Section (as founding Chairman). He also works as a consultant at the London Sleep Centre

Chris Owen Owen Sails
Owen sails have supplied all the sails for Pegasus since she was launched in 2002. Owen Sails are Scotland's largests independent sailmaker.Chris will be helping to tune the rig and also assit with sailing tactics. All the sail materials including a new (discounted) GXG Carbon based headsail specially made for the challenge have been supplied by Dimension Polyant Sailcloth Technology.
